If it wasn’t for my blog, I wouldn’t make any online sales at all. It’s true that I have a “regular” website, my so-called “main website,” which I first set up to sell my goods, in this case, men’s and women’s health products.

It’s my workhorse, the source of most of my revenue. Most of my sales resulted from generic listings in the search engines, particularly Google.

That is, until Google sandboxed me.

Some of you may have heard of the legendary Google sandbox, sometimes called, “The Goggle Sandbox Effect.” What happens is that newly listed sites rank well for about two to three weeks, then suddenly drop off the radar screen. These new sites are placed in a type of probational sandbox, away from the “real” sites.

Why does this happen, you ask? There are almost as many theories as there are SEO (Search Engine Optimization) experts. Many believe that this probation period is not related to the sites themselves, but to their links. It is believed that back link (pure link popularity) credit is placed in a reserve for a period of time (2-4 months) before it is applied to ranking and has an effect. The theory behind this is to combat PR (Page Rank) purchasers from dominating PR from the beginning. It is meant to deter spam websites.

Others believe this alleged filter that is placed on new websites is an illusion. These skeptics argue that the phenomenon merely echoes already existing Google algorithm calculations.

Whatever the reason, I got sandboxed, the rug pulled out from underneath me; shiskobobbed. The high-ranking and sales that I was receiving from my site suddenly plummeted.

I was devastated. What’s a poor boy to do now?

Distributing reprint articles for promotion of your website is one of the easiest ways to increase your website traffic and sales. As the internet continues to expand and the number of services and products offered multiply, it is important to make sure that your website is getting the traffic it needs to make your venture a successful one. One of the hardest parts of Internet marketing is simply getting people to your website, and once there, you usually have an equal chance as your competitors to sell your goods or services. Reprint articles are articles that you write or have written for you, and then you distribute these articles to as many websites as you can. In the article, typically at the beginning of the article, you will place a link back to your site and your author information. These articles are then distributed to relevant websites. I use the distribution services of http://www.thephantomwriters.com to get my reprint articles placed where they need to be.

Not Ranking High Enough On Search Engines?

Jason DeVelvis

Search engines are frugal things. (Froogle, too, haha! Sorry, lame joke) They take many, many things into consideration when ranking your pages. Below are some things you should do to be sure you’re ranked as high as possible. Keywords Go for keyphrases, not single keywords. Unless you want to spend the next 3 months trying to break into the first page for a single keyword, focus on keyphrases. Besides, most searchers search for two or more words. Single keywords just don’t provide the targeted results searchers are looking for. Focus on the keyphrases that you can take over. Keyphrases like “Exit now” or “Exit Here” or even a keyword like “Exit” will be next to impossible for you to get a top 3 ranking, because of the overwhelming popularity for porn site landing pages to put a link to Yahoo, Google, or Disney with the anchor text of one of those keyphrases mentioned above. Go ahead, try it out – type one of them into Google and see what you get. Funny enough, Disney recently took the lead over Yahoo for the keyword “Exit.” Go Disney go! Site Focus Don’t allow your site to focus on more than 1-2 different things. Create separate sites for each product or service, and if you’d like, a main site to describe your company, and have it link to all of your products. This will allow you to better target your pages, because a user looking for widgets isn’t going to stick around long on a page for a company that sells widgets and woozles, when they don’t see information about widgets (even if it’s blatantly obvious) Think about it this way: You’re always one click away from losing a customer on the internet. Do everything you can to eliminate that one click.

If there’s one thing that Google loves, it’s content. Done
right, a content rich website is almost guaranteed to rank
highly. But how to get that content? You can write it
yourself, but that takes a lot of time. You can pay an SEO
copywriter to write it for you, but that takes a lot of
money. If only there was another option…

What if you could get your content for free? And not just a
little bit of content; a lot! What if you could get an
almost unlimited supply of keyword rich, expertly written
content, specific to your subject matter, absolutely free of
charge? Would you snap it up and upload to your site in an
instant? Of course you would! Well here’s the good news: you
can! Read on to find out how you can get a top ten ranking
in the search engines without paying a single cent…

YES, CONTENT GIVES YOU A GREAT RANKING

Content is king. This is widely acknowledged as fact, but if
you need further convincing, consider the following two
points:

Point 1 – In Google’s own words, one of the keys to a high
ranking is to “create a useful, information-rich site” (from
“Google Information for Webmasters” -
http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html).

Point 2 – Google insider, codenamed ‘Google Guy’, advocates
a list 26 steps to building a high ranking site. Step 5 of
the list says, “build one page of content and put online per
day at 200-500 words” (from Brett Tabke’s “26 steps to 15k a
Day” – http://www.searchengineworld.com/misc/guide.htm,
advocated by Google Guy in a WebMasterWorld QA session -
http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum30/29727-6-10.htm).

BUT WHY DOES CONTENT GIVE YOU A GREAT RANKING?

I won’t go into any further detail about IF Google loves
content. I will, however, briefly explain WHY. Google’s love
affair with content is based on two key attractions:

1) Google loves sites with a lot of content because it
assumes they provide a lot of useful information. And
remember, that’s the whole reason Google exists – to help
people find useful information. The more helpful Google’s
results, the more traffic (and revenue) it gets.

2) Google loves sites that have a lot of links pointing to
them because this means other webmasters hold your site in
high regard, and Google assumes this means the content is
useful. And naturally, if you create a useful site, other
webmasters will link to it because this makes them useful to
their visitors (thereby developing site loyalty), and they
gain credibility and authority because they’re associated
with you.

SO HOW CAN YOU GET FREE CONTENT FOR YOUR WEBSITE?

Three words: ‘free reprint articles’. There are hundreds of
thousands of people out there writing high quality, helpful,
informative articles on virtually every topic imaginable,
then giving these article away to any webmaster who wants to
publish them on a website. In exchange for the article, the
author asks only that you retain the author bio at the end,
complete with all links (e.g. “Glenn Murray is an SEO
Copywriter and Article Submission Specialist…).

To find free content for your website, simply visit any one
of hundreds of ‘article banks’ on the Internet such as
http://www.ezinearticles.com, http://www.goarticles.com, or
http://www.articleblast.com. Browse or search for the
subject you’re interested in, then take the article(s) for
free. There is absolutely no charge. Some of these sites
will even send a regular stream of articles direct to your
website (using RSS).

Alternatively, you can sign up to any number of article
distribution lists and get articles delivered direct to your
email inbox. Again, it’s absolutely free! Some of the better
known distribution lists include
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/article_announce,
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/Free-Content, and
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Free-Reprint-Articles.

TIP: The article banks and distribution lists mentioned
above are just the tip of the iceberg. There are hundreds
more – just do a search for “free reprint articles”,
“article submission”, “article submission site”, “submit
article”, “article submit site”, “free articles”, or “free
content”. You may even find a site or list which only deals
in articles relating to your particular subject matter.

WHY IS IT FREE?

Why are these authors giving their articles away? Because it
helps the author’s own search engine ranking. It’s a
promotional activity known as ‘article PR’. As explained
above, Google loves sites with lots of links pointing to
them. Every time their article submission is published, the
author gets another link to their website. In fact, if the
article is really good, it may be published hundreds of
times. And each time, it’s another link to the author’s
website. Put simply, article submission is a writer’s free
pass to the top of the search engines. (In this sense, the
“PR” in article PR stands for PageRank.)

Furthermore, like traditional public relations, article PR
also conveys a sense of authority because your articles are
widely published. And because you’re proving your expertise
and freely dispensing knowledge, your readers will trust you
and will be more likely to remain loyal to you. (In this
sense, the “PR” in article PR stands for Public Relations.)

HOW DO I KNOW IF THE QUALITY IS GOOD?

It’s a process of natural selection. The better the article
submission, the more often it will be published, so it’s in
the author’s interest to write and submit articles of the
highest quality. Of course, this doesn’t always happen, but
in most cases, you’ll be reviewing the articles before you
post them anyway, so if you discover one that’s not up to
scratch, don’t use it.

In time, you’ll become familiar with the authors who
consistently put out good quality content – you may even
find enough of them that you don’t need to go looking for
content from anyone else…

WHERE DO I PUT THE FREE CONTENT

Most people put the articles in an ‘Articles’ or ‘Resources’
section on their website, but you can put them anywhere you
like.

HOW MUCH FREE CONTENT SHOULD I USE?

As much as you want or as little as you want. It all depends
on your needs and the needs of your audience. If your
audience expects that at least some of your site is original
content, then give it to them.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE DUPLICATE CONTENT ISSUE?

It’s not an issue!

There’s a lot of a talk about how Google penalizes duplicate
content. The theory is that when the majority of the content
on two separate webpages (on different sites) is the same,
the one with the higher PR will be shown and the other one
will not.

Whether or not this theory is true is still a hot topic in
search engine circles, but regardless, it doesn’t affect
people publishing free-reprint articles. When you publish
the article, just make sure you have unique content around
it. Generally, it’s enough to have your own unique
introduction to the page (which may be common to all pages),
and your own navigation elements, headers, footers,
sidebars, logos, images, etc.

CONCLUSION

Free reprint articles are a great way for you to achieve a
high ranking. And you don’t have to pay a cent! So what are
you waiting for?

Happy reprinting!

Google Page Ranking And The Value Of Links

In today’s incarnation of the Internet search engine optimization or SEO is more important than webpage design skills. The best designed webpage has limited usefulness if no one visits it. A website is a product and a product that people don’t know about doesn’t sell. With the many search engines that are available it is important to know which are the most useful and how they are useful. Let’s look at Google. Google uses a particular search algorithm that assigns a value to websites called PageRank that is one part of how it ranks pages. The PageRank value is determined by several things but the most important are the values derived from the ingoing and outgoing links in your page. Let’s look at that first. The links in your website allow Google to navigate the pages on your site and index more of the content. Keep in mind that it is your pages that are ranked and not your site. You could conceivably have one page ranked higher than all of your others put together. This is the biggest reason to make sure that all of your pages have links into and out of them and that you never have dangling links or pages that can be linked to but not out of. This is why the navigation structure of your site is vitally important. With that covered let’s look at the main factors used for PageRank. First of all a page on your site has to be indexed by Google to even have a PageRank. At that point the page has an intrinsic PageRank value. That page has links to your other pages. When one page links to another page it increases that page’s PageRank value without deceasing its own. It is almost like one page voting for another without penalizing itself. This is why you want to avoid any dangling links because although that page would have an increase in PegeRank it could not do the same for another page. With this in mind it is prudent to direct more links to your most important pages to increase its value. Then from that page the visitors to your site can link to the other pages. The best strategy for increasing PageRank is to link pages to each other with a single link. By doing this you avoid splitting the value between multiple pages. However you want to make sure that all of your pages are linked together so that you can navigate your entire site from a single starting point. Remember that in SEO you must learn as many aspects of it as possible as they are ever evolving.

Many webmasters are obsessed with the Google Page Rank. Articles and books have been written about Google PR (Page Rank). Forum postings cover the topic over and over again and about every 3 months tensions are rising when a possible Page Rank update is eventually happening. Page Rank updates are an interesting experience watching a small group of webmasters go a little crazy. It all starts with somebody noticing the PR update in progress. This event will find its way into forums and newsgroups fast. Within minutes and hours the Internet community becomes aware of a Page Rank update. As Google.com uses several different data centers for its search engine services and also updates them in different intervals webmasters all over the world will see different results when looking for Page Rank results. A Page Rank update will also not complete within an hour or a day. For several days results will fluctuate.

It’s unfortunate that many website owners are so hung-up on Page Rank, they’ll rarely if ever, link to a site with a page rank lower than their own. I’m frequently approached by other website owners who it’s clear want to exchange links with one of my websites for no other reason than its Page Rank and so they can get more back links to their own website. That’s my experience with quite a few of my own websites. It’s not until you get around a Page Rank 4 do back links come without you having to go and find them. Back link requests tend to come more from sites with Low Page Rank wanting to improve search engine ranking by getting back links from higher ranking websites. They’re also frequently from websites that offer no relevant content to your visitors and are from totally unrelated areas.

If you’re new to AdSense, getting motivated to write original content can be difficult. Writing content takes time, and it also takes time to get the content advertised and get links into each page. If you still have a day job, it can be tough to make the time. One way to motivate yourself to create the content and get the links is to calculate how much you are earning per page per year. Multiply that times any number of pages and you will have a good idea of how much money you are missing out on by NOT creating content and getting links. Let’s take an example. Let’s say that you have 100 pages of content that are earning you $100 a month. That means that each page is making you, on average, $1 per month, or $12 per year. $12 per year may not sound like much, but let’s say that you created one unique article every 3 days and got a few links to that article with link exchanges, etc. 365 days in a year means that in one year you will have added and linked about 122 additional pages of content.

Lil Waldner

Submit to 10,000 Search Engines or Submit to over 200,000
Search Engines. This kind of ads should attract customers. It
looks great to submit to so many search engines. Submission
software is offered that helps to submit hundreds of websites
to hundreds of search engines during several hours. What is a
realistic, possible result of all these nice tools? The
achieved link popularity is near Zero, but the mail box is
filled by the autoresponders from the mass of FFA (Free for
all) search engines.

Which Search Engines count?

Only a few of the many search engines really count! 99,9 % of
all those who go on-line to find something use one of the 18
top search engines. Scrub The Web provides this information in
its member area. Yahoo, MSN Search and Google are the top
three search engines according to Alexa Ranking. Alta Vista and
AllTheWeb also famous search engines – belong to Yahoo and
are supplied by Yahoo.

If Link Popularity of a website is measured by the services
that provide this information, only the Link Popularity of a
website at Google, MSN, Yahoo, AllTheWeb, Alta Vista or Hot Bot
is displayed. This shows that only a few search engines really
count for Link Popularity. It is not necessary to submit to
thousands of search engines, but to the few important search
engines in the right way.
